Next up in my fun cooking series with Gary Barlow for Barlow’s Bootcamp, rasta dal from my new book East by West (pg 186). This recipe was passed onto me by another wonderful Gary, my friend Gary Gorrow (also my meditation teacher), who got the recipe from his Rastafarian friend — hence the name! What I love about this deliciously simple dish is that it proves that food doesn’t necessarily need to be Indian to be Ayurvedic — the mustard for example is definitely not a typical ingredient in Ayurveda! The only thing that matters is that it adheres to Ayurvedic principles and supports your digestion the same way a more “traditional” dish (say, kitchari) would.

Find this recipe and 140 others in my book East by West, or watch me explain Ayurveda to Gary in less than a minute!
