Introducing the East by West Thumb Drum AKA kalimba AKA thumb piano. Inspired by the Mbira, a traditional North African instrument, this easy-to-play wooden percussion instrument features metal keys tuned to different notes which sound when played. Simply “pluck” the keys with the tips of your thumbs.

The East by West Thumb Drum is made from a hollow mahogany case for its beautiful resonance and rich tone, and features 10 keys known as “tines.” It is tuned to a C major, with each of the metal keys labelled with their corresponding note. They can be fine-tuned with the enclosed metal hammer.

Perfect for musical play as well as experimentation and improvisation since it requires no musical training, the East by West Thumb Drum is a welcome addition to poetry recitals and sound baths, or to improvise and create melodies at home.
