CELEBRATE WORLD MUSIC DAY WITH A THUMB DRUM

The 21st of June marks World Music Day — la Fête de la Musique if you’re celebrating in France! — which is a wonderful excuse to indulge in the power of sound. From listening to your favourite albums (or a sound bath or two) to even creating some tunes of your own, there are so many ways to mark the day.

If you’re wanting to try something different, seasoned musician or not, why not give the East by West Thumb Drum a spin?

Also known as a kalimba or thumb piano, this handheld music-maker is inspired by the Mbira, a traditional North African instrument. An easy-to-play wooden percussion instrument, it features metal keys tuned to different notes which sound when played. Simply “pluck” the keys with the tips of your thumbs to create your own music.

Perfect for musical play as well as experimentation and improvisation since it requires no musical training, the East by West Thumb Drum is perfect for musical play as well as experimentation and improvisation, and a welcome addition to poetry recitals and sound baths, or to improvise and create melodies at home. Just use your intuition and imagination and feel those vibrations! I love playing my Thumb Drum with Mahi, and I’m sure your family will love it too.
