I hope you all had a very merry Christmas, that you enjoyed some quality time off with loved ones, ate some delicious meals, partied…. AND relaxed! I know December, and the end of a long year, can really take a toll on our wellbeing, between all the excesses and all the expectations and the overwhelm of reflecting on a year or even years gone by. Here are some inspirational clips, movies and recordings that I have found very helpful in 2019 — I hope that they work to bring you back down to earth post-party season without the crash landing… or help to ease your way off the sofa and into the new decade feeling uplifted and inspired! And if you’re hungry for more once you’ve worked your way through these, check out my YouTube favs for meditation/breathwork, yoga and teachings.

HEAL Documentary

This thought-provoking film, released in 2017, explores health in the holistic way that modern medicine often overlooks, going beyond the symptoms to look at the causes, and showing how her bodies and minds can heal far better than our prognoses can sometimes make out. It’s fascinating whether or not this is your default approach to life or it’s all news to you! Featuring big names in the holistic wellness world including Dr. Deepak Chopra, Marianna Williamson, Ayurvedic practitioner Peter Crone and Dr. Joe Dispenza, this is a film with the potential to change lives.

Ayurveda Unveiled

I know: for the uninitiated, Ayurveda can feel like a lot of information, especially if the traditional Eastern approach to life, which is holistic (as the modern approach to wellbeing in the west is heading  — see above!), is a new concept and Sanskrit words make the code difficult to crack. Thanks to Ayurveda Unveiled, a film by Gita Desai featuring Dr. Deepak Chopra and Dr. Claudia Welch among others (both of whom you’ll have seen me mention over the years), not only can you get a good feel for the power of this ancient wisdom from the imagery alone, but anyone can gain a solid understanding of the basic principles of this ancient philosophy, and incorporate them into their lives for greater wellbeing of mind, body and spirit. This movie is not on general release yet so I’ll shout about it when it is, but for those who can’t wait there is a way to stream it — albeit with a bit of a cost!

Dr Joe Dispenza - Break the Addiction to Negative Thoughts & Emotions

Dr. Joe Dispenza (who received a “never to walk again” prognosis following a bike accident that broke 6 vertebrae in his spine, then used the power of his mind to heal his body and walk again just 9 and a half months later) is an international lecturer, researcher, corporate consultant, author, and educator who has been invited to speak in more than 33 countries on six continents. His teachings are based on his multi-disciplinary research on brain function and the Law of Attraction, and how we can turn our entire lives around by changing our thoughts. In this 50-minute audio (that you can play while sweeping up Christmas dirt and debris or scrubbing the roasting tin), he explains how to break the cycle of negative thoughts that negatively impact our lives on and on and on. Powerful stuff — I can’t stop watching/listening/reading — and hopefully putting it all into practice!

HEAL while you SLEEP | Deep Body Healing Manifest | Cell Repair and Pain Relief Healing Meditation

Following on from the idea that our mind-bodies hold the intelligence that not only “grew us” but can “mend us,” this relaxing meditation has become a go-to bedtime listen since it was released in summer this year. At just over 2 hours long, it’s not only relaxing but in following the narrator's voice as she runs through how complete and powerful your mind and body are with affirmations which you can mentally repeat, you will drift off into a deep sleep and wake feeling in such a better space. So for those who have been thrown completely out of whack over the festive period, have trouble winding down in general or have some mental or physical healing they want to get on with, this meditation is just the thing.
