Local foods, fresh from the farm or garden, are always welcome on the plate, but these are not the only foods that deliver energy and nutrition. The following Ayurvedic pantry list sets out all the ingredients you can keep in the cupboard ready to accompany and complement your meals. Most of the ingredients can be found in all good supermarkets and international foods stores, or find them online below.  Buy the best quality you can afford, avoid pre-cooked, canned or overly refined versions of these foods, and just because many of these have a long shelf-life, don’t leave them hanging around for a lifetime — fresh is best! Some ingredients, such as mung dal and white basmati rice are easy to digest for all the doshas as are a small amount of spices in your everyday cooking. Otherwise keep variety in your food choices and try not to overeat any ingredients so as not to aggravate your dosha.

I carefully pick every product I feature on my website, but just so you know, I may earn a small commission when you buy through the links on this page.
