PARTYWEAR: IT’S ALL ABOUT VINTAGE

Part two of partywear and it’s all about vintage.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: I. love. vintage! From hand-me-downs growing up and charity shopping with uni friends to scouring Soho’s vintage stores as a model to the present day when I’m lucky that secondhand is now a trend in itself. Vintage as a “scene” has now become less about digging through moth-eaten clothing to find that special gem (though I have to admit this still has a big pull for me, as I love a diamond in the rough!) and can now be an incredibly luxe experience, with something at every price point. You can score beautiful treasures with a rich history, and create a unique look you won’t see on anyone else, plus it’s a great way to shop sustainably, lending a new life to a piece that might have been tossed otherwise. Keeping fashion circular.

Recent months have seen a rise in independent vintage sellers, offering curated edits of only the best, which saves you time and still gives you loads of choice (albeit with only one size of each piece available! Such is the nature of shopping second-hand). Read on for some of my favourite vintage marketplaces:

ANOTHER MATINEE

The brand’s founder, Sarah Brand, hand picks each one-of-a-kind vintage dress Another Matinee carries. The brand launches small, curated collections regularly via its website.

LAURA VON BEHR

Laura launched her business selling online and at fairs, and now sells by appointment at her Hackney studio. Given the nature of vintage and sizing, she believes in the importance of having a good try-on.

DAISY MURRAY

Instagram is a tool for so many things, including retail! Daisy sells her vintage, often very prairie-esque vintage pieces via the platform.

HUMAN SEA VINTAGE

Based in South East London, Human Sea offers a curated edit of vintage clothing, shoes and accessories. Every item is hand selected for its quality, condition and potential to fit seamlessly into a modern wardrobe.

WILLIAM VINTAGE

For a more luxe experience, vintage royalty William Vintage sells its highly collectable, one-of-a-kind pieces on Matches and by appointment in their Marylebone boutique.

AUBOURG VINTAGE

Layla Dale has always been passionate about clothes with a story, so when her late grandmother Gabrielle Aubourg’s incredible vintage wardrobe passed down to her, she decided to share them with all of us via Etsy. Gabrielle’s clothes feature among other unique items sourced from around the world.
